King of Fighters XIII Kicking off this Holiday

Not sure why this isn’t getting more news coverage (probably due to Street Fighter hogging all of the major news outlets), but Atlus announced that King of Fighters XIII will be out this fall. The website is already up and running, with more content on the way.

The game will debut on both Playstation and Xbox 360 consoles. Will it make it in time for EVO?

New Vocaloid unveiled

She looks a lot more “princess-y” than past Vocaloids, for sure. Will she replace the queen of Vocaloid, Miss Hatsune Miku herself? Who knows?

The real life equivalent of casual gaming

Jun 06 2011

17166972_m

Since 2008, fighting games have seen a rise in gaming mechanics that cater to beginners. It’s a trend that started out of nowhere. And while it’s been a positive and a negative trope to gamers universally, I couldn’t help but wonder what the real life equivalent would like…until today.

I should warn readers, there’s some really rage-inducing content coming. You were warned.

Signs of things to come

Jun 03 2011

scv

Latest trailer for Soul Calibur V dropped, and already things look very, very promising. For the first time ever in a Namco, it seems the concept of “Super Moves” complete with their own cutscenes are coming. They’re quite similar to Ultras in terms of presentation. A friend of mine has already begun dubbing the game as “Super Soul Calibur V” (lol).

At any rate, if this is a sign of things to come (and the eventual Tekken x Street Fighter game Namco has coming around the corner), then I very much welcome this new element with open arms.

It’s about time Tekken got an upgrade.

Over 11 minutes of Dead Island gameplay

May 23 2011

deadisland

Take a quick tour of Dead Island with Vincent Kummer, Deep Silver’s Brand Manager. I’ve been eager to see how Dead Island was shaping up after watching that hauntingly tragic teaser trailer they debuted a while back, and I’m glad to say it’s looking good. Now, the thing is though with zombie games is one can’t help but compare to all the other major titles out there, such as L4D and Dead Rising. And while Dead Island certainly does some interesting things (item crafting, exploring, game physics) they’ve adapted a few tricks from the big boys.

Full video after the jump.

New character unveiled in latest update for MBAACC

May 19 2011

newcharacter

French Bread held their second online TV broadcast last night, and in it they revealed their latest character for Melty Blood Actress Again: Current Code. As you can see, it’s clearly Archetype: Earth with her own set of sprites and animations. She doesn’t look too shabby, either. Makes you kind of wish they’d done this for the console version instead of using Arcuied’s sprites, but all in all this is just as fine.

Powerd Ciel in action

May 19 2011

We finally get to see Powerd Ciel in action, and boy oh boy. She looks really powerful. It helps that the player is Ashie too, but looking at all her tools and options, I’d reckon that Powerd Ciel is going to be extremely fun and extremely powerful.

Re: Playing to win (part two)

You could say the Tekken Tag Tournament era lasted between1999 and 2001. It was a golden era, before the internet age took control. It was during this period that foreign countries began to make their presence known to the fighting game community, and sparked the beginning of an intellectual renaissance. Japan certainly had it’s place in the 2D realm, but Korea definitely made the largest impact in the 3D realm.

More specifically, they ruled the world when it came to Tekken.

A creative twist with a L4D feel

May 12 2011

charlie

A film director was asked to recreate Charlie Bit my Finger for a film festival, and out came out this cool L4D-inspired Zombie short.  You can definitely spot the tiny references here and there in the minute and a half video (is that Francis I see there?  Ooh, a baseball bat!) which is really, really [...]
