In the last two years, we have bore witness to the rebirth of the fighting game genre. Street Fighter IV lead the charge, with Tekken 6 and BlazBlue following the trail. 2009 was the year that fighting games laid their mark again, and the winds of change are in the air this year.
With the announcement of Street Fighter X Tekken (along with it’s subsequent counterpart, Tekken x Street Fighter), the genre stands on the brink again. Will it lower the bar, allowing new players equal footing with seasoned veterans? Or will it raise the bar, in the hopes of appealing to the hardcore demographic?

It never occured to me that there was censorship in Final Fantasy VI (Final Fantasy III here in the States). All these years and I never gave a thought that Nintendo might’ve been censoring anything, outside of Mortal Kombat. Who’d have thought?
Which was why it was such a surprise when I read that Celes Chere actually tries to commit suicide. Which she does. In a very dramatic, yet textually ambiguous kind of way if you saw it happen in the English localization.

In the latest series of memes to grace the internet, this new (and completely language NSFW version) has raised the bar. Forever. Guile theme, look out — there’s a new player in town.

Finally, an excuse to push out more of my Kara no Kyoukai images on my computer. Oh and, the Blu-Ray Disc won’t be out until February of next year, but the box compilation will have tons of goodies — most notably the 30-minute long (and highly anticipated) final chapter that was promised so long ago.

Haven’t been following King of Fighters XIII as of late. But after a recent tournament, I decided to dig up some info on the game. There’s some good stuff. And also some bad stuff.

I participated at a recent tournament over the weekend. Was very fun. I highly recommend it for those of you who’ve never experienced a tournament — it’ll improve your game very, very quickly.
One of the events at the tournament was a mystery side game tournament. Hokuto no Ken (Fist of the North Star) was the game of choice. I’ve never really given this game much thought when it first came out (the game never really appealed to me at the time) but after the tournament was over and done with I did some researching.
I’m not quite sure I liked what I found.

The team behind the Persona series is teaming up with Studio 4°C to bring a whole new adult-themed game that’s been stirring the internet ever since the PV trailer has been released.
The JRPG touts some seemingly risque scenes in the game, bringing about the possibility of a pseudo eroge (erotic game) genre to next gen systems (a possible first for Atlus). Hardly anything else is known, outside of the main character Vincent having a tie-in from the Persona series and sheep being a massively redundant theme in the game.
Details are scarce at the moment. In the meantime, you can view the trailer here, after the jump.

The face model looks great. Very Solid Snake-ish (lol). Also, it should be noted that the gi is from Paul — Ryu’s karate uniform hasn’t been created yet.

There have only been two people who impress me when it comes to commentary: Seth Killian, and Sp00ky from Team Sp00ky. Both are highly intelligent and dedicated to their craft. When they speak, I listen. They always find the right balance between explaning game mechanics and brevity — a breath of fresh air from the cursive laced, mindless psycho babble that a majority of fighting game commentators tend to pigeonhole themselves into.

I grew up with all sorts of fighting games as a kid: Street Fighter, TMNT Tournament Fighters, Darkstalkers, Tekken, and more. Lots more. My first competitive venture locally was probably Tekken 3, although I dabbled a lot in Street Fighter Alpha, Soul Calibur, and the Marvel vs Capcom series.
Tekken Tag Tournament however, was my first real adventure in high level competition. I trained for hours a day and left nearly every weekend for a tournament either in Oklahoma, KC, St. Louis, or Iowa. That was 10 years ago. Today I play a huge variety of games, not just Tekken.
